Hawksbill Turtle
Hawksbill Turtle
Eretmochelys imbricata
Slender and streamlined, the graceful Hawksbill's overlapping shell is beautifully colored and on some islands are prized for making a variety of "tortoise shell" trinkets. Fortunately on Saba, they are protected by the Saba Marine Park and are found on nearly every dive site from our deep water pinnacles to our shallower sites such as Torrens Point. Recognizing they have little to fear on Saba, they allow close up observation, but with powerful flippers are quite capable of a hasty retreat when threatened.
