Bay, Saba - On January 14 after an 8 hour
journey from St. Thomas, Captains John Magor and Rob Hurrell docked
Sea Saba's new custom dive boat, the M/V Giant Stride, in Fort Bay
marking the start of a new era and the new millennium for Sea Saba.
John and Rob completed the 115 mile crossing with mixed weather
conditions ranging from dead calm seas to mild squalls. On arrival,
Rob, a veteran seaman of 25 years, stated "she handled better
than any boat I've captained in years, just cutting through the
waves without pounding." While Saba's dive sites are at most a
short 15 minute jaunt from Fort Bay, this is just one more reason to
dive the Sea Saba difference since we sometimes experience choppy
seas when heading out to Saba's world famous pinnacles.
The Giant Stride is a 38 foot Delta
(John's first choice and almost 44 feet when including her dive
platform and long bow sprit) equipped with twin Caterpillar Turbo
3208 diesel engines, two easy exit ladders that allow you to keep
your fins on, an easy entry dive platform with hand rail, and a 46
tank capacity. But don't worry about the possibility of a
"cattle boat"... Sea Saba will be maintaining our policy
of a maximum boat capacity of 10 divers unless larger dive groups
specifically request that they stay together.
The Giant Stride also boasts many convenience features including a tuna tower for
added deck space, electric flush head, plenty of dry storage space, pop-down dive briefing board,
wetsuit rack, four easy dive entry points for backward rolls or giant
strides, a fresh water shower and a generous 400 gallon fuel
capacity. At the same time, you won't find any safety features
lacking on the Giant Stride with a VHF radio, ship-to-shore
communications system, oxygen, complete first aid equipement, life raft,
life preservers and fire extinguishers.
So Lenny's history, the
diving's still great and Saba's premier dive operation now has
Saba's premier dive boat... come on down, we're back, we're better than
before, our second new dive boat is on its way and we can even
offer you a new dive site!
