Humpback mother in resting position while monitoring calf   While wintering for months in Caribbean shallow calving grounds, this mother finds time to rest while her baby experiments with achieving neurtral buoyancy. Humpback mothers must conserve energy while still looking after a newborn calf as it's a long trek back to their northerly feeding grounds. Check out our 2013 Feature story with more photos and information on Saba's sightings this season. Check the monthly slates for daily reports from our guides and guests.

Saba from 30,000 feetIf you're flying past our island rather than lucky enough to be experiencing Sea & Learn on Saba...here's a few things you've missed...a night time snorkel excursion to witness ostracod light patterns; a Tarpon expert explaining what unique physiological attributes these prehistoric fish possess that have allowed them to exist since the dinosaurs; night diving with a lobster expert who can tell tails from lobster migration to how these bottom dwellers stay healthy. Click on the Oct '12 slate below to "see and learn" more about this unique month long event and what our divers should expect this coming week. Night time presentations take place at a different venue each night. It's fun; it's free and it's for everyone. www.seaandlearn.org has the full calendar for the month, bios of each expert and more.

Saba biodiversity mural at Lambee's PlaceCelebrating Saba's biodiversity...we invited the original owner of Sea Saba back to Saba to work with local artist Stacey Simmons. Together they created a work of art. The island enjoyed watching their daily work on the busy corner of Lambee's Place so we thought you might enjoy seeing the evolution of their mural. Look for a feature article on Joan--how she made a difference on Saba and how her educational work continues to make a difference elsewhere.

What a year of accolades we have had...starting with Lonely Planet listing the Saba Marine Park in the Top 10 "Masterpieces of the Natural World". Meanwhile National Geographic Books names the island of Saba as the 3rd best island destination in their recent publication "The 10 Best of Everything".

And what a year...check all the Saba highlights
