Caroline & Michael

Caroline Levy & Michael Hood
Joined the team of Sea Saba in the summer of 2013…however, many of you may recognize them as they’ve been part of the Fort Bay scene for almost 3 years (read: working for another shop)

And so goes yet another dive instructor meets vacationing tourist story…Coming from a diving family, Caroline fulfilled her childhood fantasy of being Ariel (The Little Mermaid),by donning a tank at the young age of 12.  Declaring dual sovereignty as a GRITS (Girl Raised in the South) as well as a California girl, Caroline split her childhood between the San Francisco Bay area while spending summers with her father in Alabama and Texas. After completing a degree in Business Management at the University of Arizona, she headed back to California but this time to the southern beaches where she worked as a recruiter for the world’s largest accounting firm and dove on weekends as much as possible.  The next dive trip landed her family in Roatan, Honduras where Michael made fast friends with Caroline’s father when he thought he was a fishing tv show star.

Michael grew up in Toronto…As a teen, he was uncertain of his direction but knew he wanted to work on the water.  His open water check out dives were in Georgian Bay (as in cold water diving!) with the plan to become a commercial diver. Michael chose the dive shop with its commercial diving program in mind but found that the shop was also home to the support divers and set builders for major films-- Toronto was considered Hollywood North at the time.  His eyes were opened to a new passion that motivated him to head to the University of Toronto where he completed his degree in Film and Asian studies.  Ten years later, he took a life ‘time out’ to travel through Central America where he completed his professional dive training.

Once Caroline realized hanging out with a bunch of bean counters was far less inspirational than the lifestyle of Caribbean diving, she chucked it all and rendezvoused with Michael for a year before heading to Saba.

Caroline protects her stunning blue eyes with a well worn Crimson Tide (Alabama football) cap but proudly sports the hat as Sea Saba’s ‘head instructor’ as well.  Meanwhile, Michael is as comfortable at the helm of Giant Stride or Sea Dragon or teaching diving or assisting John as a VooDoo Villain making magic with Sea Saba’s preventative maintenance department. Look forward to two fun loving, dive enthusiasts with the right balance of experience and passion for our sport.
