Looking for a romantic getaway, special honeymoon destination or an alternative wedding location?  Consider one of the last unspoiled islands in the world.  A nature lovers' paradise, Saba offers true serenity with small inn-style hotels, private cottages and villas.  Whether you come to our island to dive, hike, rock climb or just relax, you'll find Saba's natural amenities create a romantic setting without that manicured feeling.  And the prices may surprise you--in a nice way!

Our Recommendations   Location Map   Wedding Planning

We've been on Saba since 1989 helping our divers to make their vacation all the more special.  Let us help you choose the perfect place for your special trip.  Like anywhere, the factors to consider when deciding where to stay are location, amenities offered and price.  If you've never been to Saba then understanding how a 5-square mile island can matter location-wise is hard to imagine.  Our recommendations for that special place are listed below and linked to a special info/photo page to help you in your decision making...numbered with the lowest price to the highest.

Our recommendations:
1) Cat's Eye Cottage
2) Cottage In the Sky
3) Garden Cottage
4) Orchid Cottage

5) Queen's Gardens Resort

Location considerations...Windwardside is 'the main village' on the island...far from a booming metropolis, instead imagine Nantucket 25 years ago or a small village in Bergundy (France)...local shopkeepers, a grocery store carrying everything from fine wines to kids toys and fresh vegetables, art galleries and 6 great restaurants.  Booby Hill is a residential area, probably 300' (100m) higher in elevation; a 10-15 minute walk from Windwardside.  A pleasant walk up a hill if you like getting a bit of exercise; less than pleasant if you have knee problems or consider yourself a couch potato.  Troy Hill is a newly developed area above the village of The Bottom, about the same consideration of a walk up to Booby Hill, but the village of The Bottom has less to offer in the way of restaurants and shopping than Windwardside.  The Bottom houses our government offices, medical school and 3-4 local restaurants but no shops and galleries and a different atmosphere than Windwardside.

Weddings...Looking to "tie the knot"?  Get a way from it all!  Consider an enchanting island with spectacular views, world renowned scuba diving and friendly locals to help make your day special.  Read about recent weddings on Saba and why couples chose ths special island.

Saba's official "wedding rules" (and you do want it to be official) have recently become easier.  The wedding photos above were taken at Garden Cottage, a fantastic rental villa.  Many a Sea Saba diver has wed here or had their once in a lifetime honeymoon.  Tell us what you're looking for and we can advise special places just for you.  Watch this web page in the next week for more photos and honeymoon recommendations.

If the flick "Father of the Bride" makes you cringe at the thought of over organization, family haggling and losing the true meaning of the event, consider your special day on Saba.  Glenn Holm is our Director of Tourism but can easily change hats to become your personal Wedding Coordinator.  From working with you on your bouquet to arranging your witnesses, Glenn can put your mind at ease so that you can simply enjoy Saba.  Whether just you and your life partner will be at the ceremony or friends and family, arrangements for your special event can be made in a natural setting or our finest hotel.

Saba the romantic marriage getaway

SABA—One can hardly imagine a more romantic location for a wedding than Saba. The island offers an unusual variety of venues for a unique ceremony. Couples will find that the island has a full selection of professional caterers for all aspects of the event including reception, flowers, favors for the guests, and outstanding accommodations for wedding guests.

The simplest location for an efficient civil ceremony is the Court Room in the Administrative Building. For the more romantically inclined, Saba’s registrar Nellie Peterson is very flexible and works with the couple to make their wishes come true. She encourages the bride and groom to customize the ceremony with their own statements.

Recent tourist weddings have taken place on board a yacht moored in the Saba National Marine Park, on the spacious meadow at the Johnson Museum in Windwardside, in the graceful wrought iron gazebo at Queen’s Garden, around the pool side at Juliana’s, and at sunset in private villas with wonderful sea views. Saba’s churches are also available.

Saba is able to accommodate large or small parties with equal ease. One recent wedding was complex, with the large wedding party occupying the entire hotel. A Saba taxi driver was on dedicated service all weekend, and special events were organized for the wedding party, such as a private tour of the museum and a guided trail hike.

Other ceremonies have been more intimate gatherings of bride, groom, and a few family members and friends.  The same care and attention to detail went into to fabricating a wedding arch of tropical plants, coordinating the bride’s bouquet and grooms, boutonnières, and reception decorations. A serving of famous Saba lobster was requested and graciously served.

Tourist wedding parties find it easy and convenient to make all arrangements over the phone or by email. When they arrive, they find every detail coordinated and orchestrated: the perfect solution to their desire to have a unique, tropical wedding.

Many of Saba’s hotels and guests houses offer special wedding packages, explained on their web sites. The tourist bureau (sabatourism.com) also has a full explanation of the procedures needed to fulfill marriage requirements in the Netherlands Antilles.
