Saba
is located at 17.63 N 63.23 W

Located 28 miles southwest of St. Maarten, Saba is reached by a short 12
minute flight on Windward Island Airways. Winair
(airline code WM) provides 5 conveniently
scheduled connecting flights to and from St. Maarten each day. May
2004--You can now easily e-ticket your Winair flight. Go to
Winair's revamped website: http://www.fly-winair.com
to look at scheduling options and direct e-ticketing. Daily air
travel to and from St. Maarten is offered by American, Delta, Continental, US
Airways, Air France, Air Holland, Vacation Express and KLM.
Jauncho Yrausquin Airport, located
at Flat Point on Saba, boasts one of the world's shortest commercial runways at
around 1300 feet (400 meters). One of the highlights of your Saban
adventure is sure to be the hair-raising landing and takeoff aboard the
Dehavilland Twin Otter STOL
aircraft that provide air service to Saba. Not to worry though... Saba
and Winair are celebrating over 40 years of accident-free flight service to
Saba's Airport-and now a more convenient new
airport terminal building.
What's
the Price of a Winair ticket?
Winair fares can vary dramatically
depending on where and how you book. We suggest you first look at
booking the Saba portion of your trip with whomever is ticketing your
flight in to St. Maarten. This should be the most economical form of
ticketing and depending upon the carrier, can translate to no excess
baggage and "in transit" treatment at the St. Maarten airport. Winair is now in alliance with USAir,
Air France and KLM so ticketing is
easier, at least in theory. Travelocity and other bulk wholesaler's
prices can now be as high as $160 due to surcharges, mailing costs,
etc. If you are traveling "on mileage" and therefore
unable to ticket through to Saba, we are finding best fares found by
booking on-line with Winair and e-ticketing directly from their website. Be sure to provide all travelers names as
stated on their passports, exact itinerary for your 'bigger flight' in and
out of St. Maarten, and your desired travel time to Saba. And finally, if you're looking to
come to Saba for the day (and have flexibility), the first 5 (out of 19)
seats sold on each flight to Saba are sometimes as low as $66...
For all those e-Travelers who book their travel via online services such as
Travelocity.com, Saba's airport code is SAB whereas St. Maarten's Princess
Juliana Airport has an airport code of SXM. Take advantage of
Travelocity's
Flight
and Fare Search Options where you can locate the best fare, 9 best
itineraries or search by schedule depending on your preference. At the
same time, Travelocity now allows you to book your complete roundtrip to
Saba directly online and your tickets are mailed to you in a few short
days. We've included both Saba's and St.
Maarten's airport codes since some online services don't recognize SAB.
In those cases, simply use SXM and allow for an additional
$80-$100
roundtrip fare between St. Maarten and Saba. However, Travelocity is one
of the few online services we've found that actually recognizes Saba's
airport code while still allowing you to book directly online. Even
then, you'll sometimes find lower fares by breaking your trip into a
seperate SXM-SAB roundtrip segment. For example, assume you're
coming to Saba from Newark, NJ (EWR). Search for seperate EWR-SXM
and SXM-SAB roundtrips rather than a single EWR-SAB
roundtrip.
You might be surprised by the results and be able to spend more of your
dollars on Saba rather than in the air. So, shop smart! So,
what do you say? You're virtually here!
Click on the airplane below, book it now and take off for Saba!

If you're travel plans are flexible, we recommend
taking advantage of the
Travelocity Fare Watcher
service. Thinking about taking a trip to Saba, but want to make sure you get the
best price? Just tell Fare Watcher that you want to go to Saba and you'll
receive a notification via e-mail when the price changes.
Even in this internet age, you may
find you are
more comfortable and less frustrated to take the traditional approach by booking a travel agent
or wholesaler. As there are few commissions to be made for
air travel, you will probably find many companies are not willing to
book just your air travel but be confident to know you will not pay a
higher price with our recommended tour operators. In some cases,
you may find these travel agents and tour operators still can find you
considerable airfare savings between $100-$200 per person. It pays to shop around and
by shopping smart, we're
sure you'll find the best airfare whether it's through Travelocity,
Expedia or a dive travel
wholesaler.
We'd just like to see you on Saba
whichever route you choose in booking. We feel it's our
responsibility to provide you with all of the available options since
over the years we've found our best customers are those who make an
informed decision.

For seafarers, only The Edge, is providing ferry services
from St. Maarten to Saba on a regular basis. Aqua
Mania (at Pelican Resort) is the owner of The Edge and the
provider of watersports activities on Dutch St. Maarten. Make your
reservations in advance with Debby or stop by when in St. Maarten.
The Edge is comes to Saba, Wednesday through
Sunday. Although the ferry schedules generally don't allow
for same day air travel connections, some visitors opt for this mode of
transportation with overnight layovers in St. Maarten. At the same time,
many visitors to St. Maarten find this to be the perfect full day outing
that provides them with a glimpse of the Caribbean as it used to be and
still is on Saba!
The Edge departs Simpson
Bay's Pelican Marina at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday
(only Wed, Fri and Sun in slower summer months--late August through
October) arriving in Fort Bay, Saba at approximately 10:30 a.m. The
return trip from Saba is at 3:30 p.m. and arrives in St. Maarten at 5:00
p.m.
The Voyager (from Marigot,
French side St. Martin) seems to have ceased service to Saba (as of
February 2004).
Contact
us for more information about one day trips and reservations. A bit
of pre-planning assures your special dive day on Saba goes
smoothly. Don't
Forget...passport or birth certificate and photo i.d. are
required to enter the Netherlands Antilles, even for a one-day
trip.
Divers, don't forget your C-Card! -- No exceptions!
